Since 1964, volunteers have provided a lifeline for help seekers in our community with dedication and compassion. We recently gathered to celebrate, to listen, and to say goodbye.
As 988 continues to grow and we move toward sunsetting the Regional Crisis Lines (RCL) volunteer program, a foundational chapter in Crisis Connections’ history comes to a close. The spirit of care and compassion woven into our culture by this amazing group of volunteers will always be part of our work.
During the celebration, volunteers shared their experiences and reflections—some just beginning and others who’ve been with us for decades.
Marcia Arthur, RCL volunteer for more than 32 years, has devoted herself to the people in our community. She’s heard countless personal stories, shared in joy and sorrow, and has been a role model for other volunteers.
“I learned so much about the behavioral healthcare system in America, or the lack of it, and about how to be compassionate while maintaining boundaries—and how to just sit with people when there really is no solution.”
The commitment of volunteers has helped provide millions of people with hope and somewhere to turn in a crisis.
Our CEO, Michelle McDaniel, said,
“You are the legacy, and because of you, Crisis Connections will continue to serve with the same heart you brought to every single call.”

We continue to express our unwavering gratitude for every volunteer who comes in week after week and shows up for our community. The gift of their time and care has been changing lives for 62 years.
